Usually when we hear the word "Baccarat" it mostly referred to the american version of the game which was first introduced at Nevada's Casino in the late 1950's. But actually there are couple more variations of the Baccarat game which we can find in other countries, and although every variation is a bit different then the other, the main goal of this game still stays the same. |
The most common variations of Baccarat are:
- Mini Baccarat
- Chemin de fer
- European Baccarat
- Baccarat en Banque
Mini Baccarat
Mini Baccarat is played by the same rules as the regular Baccarat game, except some minor differences. The Mini Baccarat table is approximately about the same size as a regular blackjack table, and is manned by a single dealer only who is there to handle the cards. Table layout is pretty much the same as the regular Baccarat table with each of the positions corresponding to a numbered betting box which features the 'tie' , 'player' and 'banker' spots.
The most noteworthy difference between the regular Baccarat game and the Mini Baccarat game lies in the fact that the Mini Baccarat limits are much lower and normally range from a $2 to $5 min to an up to $500 max. Moreover, since Mini Baccarat games are free of the formality regular Baccarat games entail, the game's ambiance is much more relaxed which makes the Mini Baccarat game a great learning ground for beginners.
Another difference is the fact that Mini Baccarat is missing the ritual of passing the shoe box, with the croupier handling all the dealing action. In Mini Baccarat, players never touch the cards in order to deal. This is why the croupier's central position allowing him to reach all table areas is highly advantageous.
Chemin de fer
Chemin De Fer is the version of Baccarat that is mainly played in France.
In Chemin De Fer you can't just bet on the Player or on the Bank. You must be one of them. The players wager among themselves and the Casino has no direct involvement in the betting - it only provides a "Croupier" to make sure that the rules are adhered to and that everything runs in a smooth manner.
For that, the Casino takes a percentage commission (up to 5%) on all winning Bank hands.
Every player can be the Banker in turn. The player who is playing as the Banker is in charge for all losing bets with his own money, in addition to collecting all winning bets of the bank.
Unlike the traditional Baccarat, "Chemin De Fer" has more flexible third-card-rules. That is, there is some optional play whereby the Banker and the Player can decide whether to call a third card or not.
Also, the "Chemin De Fer" game is played entirely in the French lang.
Baccarat en banque
Baccarat en Banque in one of the most famous European baccarat variations
In Baccarat en Banque Only three decks of cards are used in the shoe and card drawing rules are similar to that of Chemin de Fer. The Position of the bank is played by the player (until he has been beaten by another player) who wants to bet the most money and players can only bet up to the amount that the banker is risking.
One hand goes for the bank and two hands are dealt to the players. Players can "go bank" just three times in a row and challenge the Banker and If he still loses after a third time he is not allowed to continue. If the Player suceeds in taking the Bank, the Banker and Player switch seating positions.
The aim of the game of course stays the same - to get as close to 9 as possible,
